BIOGRAPHY

Originally from Brampton, Ontario, Kurt has been a dancer with Ballet Kelowna since the summer of 2012. Prior to his move, he studied with several of Canada's top professional ballet schools including the Canada’s National Ballet School, The School of Alberta Ballet and Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, where he graduated from their Ballet Academic Program in 2011. Kurt has also travelled abroad to Austria, England, Italy, New Zealand and the US in order to further his development and knowledge of dance.

During his time with Ballet Kelowna, Kurt has performed in numerous mixed repertoire programs locally in the Okanagan Region, throughout British Columbia and Alberta as well as making company debuts in Toronto and Beijing, China. Most recently he danced in Ballet Kelowna’s mixed repertoire program, Twilight in mid February. In 2015, Kurt was the first recipient of the Brian MacDonald Dance Award (established upon his passing), and participated in The Banff Centre’s prestigious Summer Dance Program.

Kurt has also gotten involved working with the Kelowna Actors Studio on and off the main stage. Kurt made his performance debut in their production of Billy Elliot as Older Billy, appeared in Mamma Mia as Pepper and returned once more to perform in their production of The Little Mermaid this past August.

Under the guidance of Nadia Toraman and fellow faculty members of the Maui Yoga Shala, Kurt completed their 200 Hr Yoga Teacher Training Program in May 2018. Since his return, Kurt has started teaching in local studios and offering community classes to help share that which he learned during his time in Paia, Hawaii. He is currently continuing to further his yogic studies by completing a 300 Hr Yoga Teacher Training program online.

Kurt continued his yogic teaching education at My Vinyasa Practice and completed their online 300 Hr Yoga Teaching Training Program in March 2021. Kurt is pleased to utilize his learnings to offer classes in the styles of Restorative Yoga, Yin Yoga, Chair Yoga and Yoga Nidra and share his deepened understanding of the energetic bodies and pranayama practices.
